WakeMed Soccer Park Stadium Expansion

Project Type Athletics & Community

Location Cary, North Carolina

Client Town of Cary

Ten years after initially completing WakeMed Soccer Park, Integrated Design led the expansion design team with a scope that included additional locker rooms, toilets and concessions, a divisible multi-purpose space, and 3,000 new stadium seats. This expansion marked the first phase of construction listed in Integrated Design’s 2010 Master Plan for the park. The design team included NBBJ, Inc. (Los Angeles office) as a Sports Architecture Consultant.

The expansion of the stadium allows WakeMed Soccer Park to remain competitive in its bids to host National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship events. With the exception of 2012 (during the stadium's renovation), WakeMed Soccer Park has hosted a men's or women's NCAA championship tournament every year since 2003. These events have become recognized as having a major economic impact in Wake County.

In accordance with the Mast Plan, the first phase of the 158-acre sports facility's expansion included expanding the main stadium's available seating from 7,000 to accommodate up to 10,000 spectators.
