Icagen is a laboratory specializing in ion channel drug discovery in Durham, NC. When the company outgrew their existing space in 2021, they asked ID to design a larger lab and office space that could expand seamlessly as the company grew. ID developed 25,000 SF of pre-clinical labs, development labs, and office space in an existing building in Durham.
The Project’s design intent was to create an open lab space with a “spine” of individual support labs that facilitates efficient work flow. The office area mirrors this idea with a large open office space and individual office and huddle rooms along the adjacent wall. A feature of the project is the break room which is conveniently located at the rear of the space abutting an existing patio and the intersection of the lab and office realms.
