This project entailed the adaptive reuse of an existing single-story office shell into a speculative office and laboratory suite within the client’s established research campus adjacent to the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. The objective of the design was to create adaptable office and laboratory spaces that could be easily subdivided to accommodate multiple tenants, should the future need arise. To enhance the reach of natural light into the space, the project scope included the addition of exterior glazing to the building’s perimeter.

Visual connectivity between spaces was a major consideration, so glazing was introduced at both the perimeter offices and laboratories to provide access to natural light for future occupants. Mobile casework and ceiling service panels were incorporated into the design of the laboratory spaces allowing future lab users the option of reconfiguring these spaces as needed.
